What is the CTDP certification?

The Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) is a nationally recognized credential from the Institute for Performance and Learning. It confirms your expertise in key areas such as performance needs assessment, instructional design, learning facilitation and evaluation, and demonstrates your professional credibility and commitment to excellence in the learning and development field.

Who is the CTDP for?

Mid- to senior-level learning professionals with a minimum of four years of relevant experience in roles that include designing learning solutions, delivering training, and leading learning or performance improvement initiatives.

What are the benefits of certification?

Increased professional credibility, expanded career opportunities in learning and development, stronger résumés and portfolios, and access to a community of CTDP certified professionals.

What is the knowledge exam?

100 multiple-choice questions based on I4PL’s Competencies for Performance and Learning. It is self-proctored, open book and three hours long. You must score at least 75% to pass.

When is the knowledge exam?

Exams are offered quarterly. Once your self-assessment and references are complete, you register for the next session.

When should I submit my skill demonstration pre-approval?

Submit your pre-approval once you have passed the knowledge exam, up to 60 days before your desired skill demonstration date. After approval by an assessor you are invited to schedule your demonstration.

What are the skill demonstration submission dates?

Skill demonstrations are offered quarterly. Once your pre-approval is accepted, you register for the next session.

Where can I find the requirements for the skill demonstration?

The submission instructions for assessing performance needs, designing learning experiences and facilitating learning are on the Getting certified page.

How is the program structured?

Applications are accepted by cohort. The program is go-at-your-own-pace, so you move through the steps as your schedule allows. You have up to one year from the day payment is made to complete it; the typical completion time is about nine months.

How much does it cost?

CTDP registration is $1,399 plus HST and includes the application, exam, skill demonstration and interview, plus a one-year individual membership. See Getting certified.

Is the CTP designation still available?

No. The Certified Training Practitioner (CTP) designation is no longer offered. CTDP is the current professional certification.
